Awakening
Awakening 1 I want to shake fear Out from the marrow of my bones And wake up dancing in the morning. I want to touch the glistening dew And embrace the rising sun And call the earth my home. I want to play with God Who splashes rainbows in the sky Who studs the night with stars And slides into my room on moonbeams. Wakening 2 This morning I woke up No longer trying to run From imperfections Wanting to embrace them Enjoy them Laugh at them. I am grateful For the comic relief Of being human Even when it hurts. My God is not One From whom All the slips And trips And spills Need to be hidden. My God Knows how to smile. Awakening 3 I have run in the rain And felt its wetness on my skin I have climbed mountains And felt the wind in my hair I have walked on beaches And felt sand in my toes. I have heard the ocean roar Challenged its mighty waves Been lost in their darkness And survived their power. I have lain in green pastures And breathed their fresh perfume I have fought in life’s skirmishes And felt the weariness of struggle In my soul. Now… Let the waves break Let the wind blow Let the rain fall Let the grass grow And trouble rumble at my door. My restless soul Can face nature’s turns And endure society’s trials Because… At the end of the day With my senses honed, I stand in awe of Life And am at peace For I know human love And feel its saving grace. In its presence In the midst of all that is I am in touch With the Holy. PBK
